The Veterinary Assistant Professional Program is a career-oriented program that prepares individuals for entry-level positions as veterinary assistants. Veterinary assistants serve as an important part of the veterinary team, assisting veterinarians in providing medical and surgical care to animals. Veterinary assistants perform a variety of tasks including but not limited to: cleaning and sanitizing instruments, prepping and assisting with medical procedures, administering medications, collecting and processing laboratory samples, providing animal care and handling, and providing client education. Veterinary assistants must possess excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to handle and restrain animals. They must also be able to work under pressure and maintain a professional attitude.
